Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A man who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both between nine and ten.

The accused was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his concerns.

She explained the defendant proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the police once more.

She stated the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
