PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
